At the minute, it’s a brand name that’s dividing opinion.
As idolized because it is hated, you have to have seen some it everywhere, towards the great displeasure of the many critics, who assume that in France, Canada Goose is definitely the new Moncler within a negative sense.
But on the reverse side of the fence, there are several fans who, for love nor money, would not spend a winter without their Canada Goose clothing (and who I think just have recently joined the club ).
Important: I lived in Montreal from the end of August 2012 to June 2013, so I wore my Canada Goose Outlet in several conditions (from nearly -20°C with wind, approximately 8°C as i returned to France for 3 weeks), thus i think I have got a fairly extensive, clear view on the quality of the item.
So, being a lover of men’s fashion, beautiful materials and good fitting clothing: what do I consider a bulky parka?
But before I report back, I’d love to take the time to consider Canada Goose’s brand image, that is rather ambiguous…

Ah…the price. This is basically the flag the critics of Canada Goose proudly wave. For almost all haters (and trust me you can find lots) you’re a sucker once you get a Canada Goose because:
Actually, everything could be better in an ideal world if Canada Goose wasn’t so expensive, as including the biggest haters are unanimous over the grade of the pieces.
Considering the quality of the product, you have a lot for your investment. I’ve looked and honestly, you cannot find anything cheaper with similar quality (warning, my criteria did not just boil down to ‘it has got to keep me warm’, I’ll revisit that a bit down the road).
People often speak to me about North Face, which surprises me each and every time. As if there’s a really expensive brand, it’s that. Honestly, to spend nearly 450 dollars for the 100% synthetic parka (fur and down), made in China, now that’s VERY expensive for what exactly it is. Learn more about synthetic vs down insulation here
After which there’s an aspect that’s never considered through the critics: the cut.
Because it needs to be noted that it’s difficult to find parkas cut and also some of the Canada Goose designs. I’ve rightly said some designs, because there are some that make you appear similar to a walking refrigerator.
walking refrigeratorSnow Mantra, 1200 Canadian dollars. It’s the warmest design, bound to help keep you warm as low as -60°. It’s made use of by Alaskan miners and those that work in the oil industry in far-flung icy parts around the world. There’s a good strap in the shoulder that can save you in desperate situations. You won’t look anything special with this on your back, but a minimum of you’ll stay alive.
military inspirationBanff, one of the most modified style of the manufacturer, using a nice enough military inspiration. It’s only flaw? No pockets to help keep your hands warm: it’s inside your interest to obtain some gloves!
As a side note, when you’ve spent the last five-years looking to get the best cut pieces of clothing for your personal figure, it’s a weighty argument. Having Said That I completely know that it’s not necessarily the situation for all. Inside my case, I simply can’t overlook it.
‘Yes, but you’re investing in a product!’
I’ll be truthful together with you, that’s a few things i thought to start with, however it isn’t the truth.
Really, certainly not. For instance, Quartz Nature can be a lesser known Quebec brand which has the same prices as Canada Goose. Likewise, Kanuk, which happens to be 100% a Quebec brand (the workshop is definitely nearby to my house) is a lot more expensive than Canada Goose, with prices easily exceeding the 800 dollar mark!
KanukA Quartz Nature parka, 620 dollars, using a quality that’s comparable to Canada Goose, but with a completely different brand identity for Quebecers, since the products come in Quebec (french-speaking). And in many cases at that price, nobody dares to suggest that you’re only spending money on a brand…
So why these prices? The fur that you just see about the hoods is expensive. Being a reason for interest, Kanuk sells interchangeable furs for your hoods for between 200 and 300 dollars. And and then there are no secrets: for the piece that’s not made in China, with down and high quality finish, you quickly get to the 500/600 dollar asking price, or more. It’s the actual value of things.
Kanuk (The best Quebec coat brand, but which costs a lot of money and it is geared towards a slightly older audience) has this fur strip which alone costs…270 dollars!
I’ve gone off on a slight tangent, but it really seemed necessary because, for me, Canada Goose is a brand which is unfairly stigmatized.
Right, so what’s it actually like wearing a Canada Goose parka on a regular basis?
There’s no reason for drawing the suspense: in the winter months conditions of Montreal, it’s spectacular.
I am just not surprised that the brand is offered to workers in many governmental bodies, simply because you get the feeling that its design is the consequence of a hellish experience in the cold.
For me, there are loads of brilliantly thought through details. That goes from your wire round the hood towards the thick, robust zipper (a detail sometimes missing from North Face designs, hello to the uphill battle when you’ve got gloves on) to the two pairs of pockets for the hands lined completely with fleece, without forgetting the thick fleecey chin-protector.
And will it really help you stay warm?
Completely. It’s like you’ll never have the cold again. Even that slight morning freshness, or when you’re awaiting the bus, or when you walk home right after a winter’s particular date, you happen to be never cold. I can’t remember being cold once this winter. The protection against the wind is exceptional. One weekend, I found myself at the carnival in Quebec, which is to state spending 6 hours outside using a temperature that’s approaching the -20°s, although with some wind (I do not know how much this g0ose how the temperature feels, but say no less than an additional -10°) and it should be noted that you’re protected perfectly from your cold. Even at -20°. Even the size of the zipper is safe, which suggests the wind just never gets nearby the inside your parka.
What’s more, the hood is super well-built, and even if you don’t input it up, it protects your ears. Basically this hood that protects the head perfectly from high winds is really great, really effective.
Alternatively, these aren’t the garments for the sustained sporting activity. If you’re skiing at -15° and it’s windy, you’re definitely going to sweat. Originally, Canada Goose Jacket Sale were made for workers doing a lot of standing around (which explains why bouncers love the manufacturer). Extreme mountain climbers tend to go for brands like PHD, with equally impressive technical features. The Wiggy brand has some completely fire-proof parkas…
Nonetheless we’re still lightyears clear of a Wooyoungmi coat through an absolutely perfect cut. But having tested several, Canada Goose is among those rare parka brands to value the cut of some of their designs. Thus I was surprised to locate that the shoulders of Banff, Chateau, Ontario and Citadel designs (the most ‘tight-fitting’ designs, things relative) have already been worked tirelessly on and therefore are relatively high. If chosen well for your personal size, the parka doesn’t hang off the shoulders, it’s tidy and neat.
Finally, and that i was surprised, it will always be the way it is using the most urban pieces which a size S is really a ‘true S’. Similarly, Canada Goose even does a size XS which is good to find out.
